Another year is coming to an end in a few months. We have only two more meetings before the end of the year: Sept 15th War of 1812 and Nov 17th DNA in Genealogy.
Programs
We need program ideas for the coming year! Please email us your ideas/suggestions for programs for next year! Would you like to present a program to the society? Let us know!
Society Officers
We also need officers for the society for next year! If you have any interest in helping to maintain the society please contact Kellie Thompson or LaNita McKinney. Please consider serving our society in the coming year! Any society needs people to keep the society functioning. If we want to have a society in the future we need people to help with the operations of the society!
President
The main duties of the president are the coordination of the society events, coordinating speakers, the meeting locations, and audio/visual equipment. The other duties of the president are to introduce our speakers and conduct any business meetings.
Treasurer
The treasurer of the society has the main duties of collecting the mail from the society mail box and to do the society accounting. Basically, this involves preparing a short report of what we spend each month and the dues amounts deposited into the account. We use a basic checkbook register for our accounting so the treasurer doesn’t need any specific accounting skills. The treasurer also has to make sure that a few tax-related forms are filed each year but these are very simple forms and don’t take but a few minutes to complete each year. Finally, the treasurer makes sure to write the checks for the society: mail box fees, meeting room and audio/visual fees, and any other checks needed by the society.
Secretary
The secretary of the society is charged with taking the minutes at each meeting and preparing them for display at each meeting (type and copy the minutes and print them before each meeting).
Webmaster/Mailing List Coordinator
The basic functions of the webmaster are to put posts on the website to keep our members and guests informed about the society and its activities as well as the genealogy-related events and information for the area. The basic functions of the Mailing List Coordinator are to send out periodic email newsletters of the society events and genealogy-related events and information of the area.
Hi I just thought I would tell you we are starting to try to find the unknown and unmarked graves in Benton County, Washington County and Madison Co. As Bill Degge and I have been researching the Civil War men that were here (You have our Book in the library) we have discovered that thier are a lot of unmarked and unknown graves that we want to try to find out who are in them. We are going out 1 mile from each cemetery (9 Square Mile) and seeing who was living in that area in the 1800s when these counties were first lived in by white men and getting any information as to thier names and families. Then by process of elimination we are getting what we call my Bingo list and want anyone that knows where these people are to tell us so we can document it and put a marker on thier grave.
We love your Genology Dept. and it is a wealth of information and we use it a lot by the way.
