September 21, 2013 10 am—Walker Meeting Room 1st floor of Fayetteville Public Library
For our September Genealogy Workshop, we are going to discuss genealogy software! There are many genealogy software programs available and our members have used most of them. Come and share your genealogy software experiences! If you are new to genealogy, this is a great time to find out what others like and dislike about the genealogy programs they use and pick up a few tips on how to use the genealogy software to get the results you want from it.
November 16, 2013 10 am—Walker Meeting Room 1st floor of Fayetteville Public Library
The November Genealogy Workshop will focus on preserving our photos and documents. Come and bring your preservation questions and members will share preservation tips. Also, we will discuss scrapbooking with genealogy photos! Bring a few copies of your genealogy photos and try out scrapbooking if you haven’t before.
Note: Please bring copies of your genealogy photos if you want to try out many of the scrapbooking tools! Don’t use a one-of-kind genealogy photo for scrapbooking! You might find that you accidentally cut out some of the important information from the photo later. We will discuss how to share and preserve the original photos as well as the traditional scrapbooking methods!
Scrapbooking is a good way to get the younger people interested in genealogy. Young kids will enjoy looking at your scrapbooks and finding out who all the people are even if they aren’t interested in long discussions about why you can’t find great-grandpa in the census!
Come and join us for the workshops and share your family history!
Several years ago I heard you had meetings once a month at the Fayetteville Public Library where you help Genealogy novices with research. I have a lot of family data documented in Legacy so I am not a beginner but far far from being an expert. So I am looking for some guidance so I can do the research myself. Thanks. –Don Lowe
Don,
The first meeting in January is going to begin with some instruction for the very beginning genealogist but then we are going to have an informal workshop so that we can work together on our family trees. Come to the meeting and I will be happy to share any tips I might have as I am sure the others who come will be. Then in March in May we are going to continue the workshop format with our meetings on the second floor in the genealogy area. Also, on Monday nights, the DAR has several members who meet at the library to work on their genealogy. They are very helpful to fellow genealogists of any level.
Hope to see you at the meeting.
