A meeting to explore the formation of a Combs Chapel Cemetery Association

A meeting to explore the formation of a Combs Chapel Cemetery Association will take place Sunday, April 21, at the Fayetteville Public Library at 2 p.m.

Located in southeast Fayetteville, Combs Chapel Cemetery is one of the county’s oldest graveyards, with burials dating to the 1850s, according to Susan Young, meeting organizer. Among the oldest burials there are members of the Brooks, Broyles, Cline, Collins, Combs, Edmondsons, Mayes, Mhoon, Ridley and Sutton families.

The main focus of this presentation will be on how to start your research and what records are available to trace your Cherokee ancestry from the earliest known documents which were produced during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

HeritageQuest offers many resources to you at the convenience of your home computer and the only requirement is a library card!  You can search Books, Census, PERSI, Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, the Freedman’s Bank (the bank founded to serve African Americans), and the memorials, petitions, and private relief actions of the US Congress in the LexisNexis US Serial Set. The census records include name indexes for many years and images from 1790 through 1940. What a wonderful resource that the library provides along with our library card!!
